Grace Huang

Founding Artistic Advisor

Grace Huang, DMA, is in demand as a teacher, performer, adjudicator, and clinician. As Senior Lecturer in Piano and Piano Pedagogy at the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music, she teaches undergraduate and graduate piano pedagogy, applied piano, and coordinates the class piano program. She also directs the piano program for the UGA Summer Music Camp and Institute.

 

Prior to her UGA appointment, Huang was on the piano faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music where she taught in both the Preparatory and Conservatory divisions and served as Head of Secondary Piano. She has also taught on the piano faculties of Millikin University and St. Cloud State University, as well as summer music programs such as UGA Summer Music Camp and Institute, Summer Sonata (CIM), Illinois Summer Youth Music (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.

 

Praised for her “lovely and vivacious” playing (Fort Worth Star-Telegram), she has performed throughout the U.S. and abroad as soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist. Recent performances were in Tampa, Cleveland, Charleston, Taiwan, and Austria. Her recordings on Tyler Kline’s “Orchard” (Neuma Records, 2022) received praise in Fanfare Magazine, Jazz Weekly, and others. 

 

Huang’s students have received competition honors in the U.S. and Taiwan, as well as acceptances to music festivals and schools across the country. She is an active member of MTNA, having held multiple leadership roles, and regularly serving as adjudicator and clinician. She has presented and performed at the MTNA National Conference, American Liszt Society Festival, National Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Forum, National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, College Music Society National Conference, and state conferences for Georgia, Texas, and Illinois, among others, and contributed to the Frances Clark Center’s “Inspiring Artistry” series and webinar series. A passionate arts advocate, she initiated the the “Play On, Athens!” public piano project while a member of the Athens Cultural Affairs Commission.

 

Huang holds degrees in piano performance from the University of Minnesota and Vanderbilt University. Principal teachers include Lydia Artymiw, Craig Nies, Roland Schneller, and Sue Hudson; pedagogy studies were with Rebecca Shockley, Karen Ann Krieger, and Elizabeth Cormier. She is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music.
