Ngan Nei Chan

Ngan Nei Chan is a pianist, educator, and arts community leader. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance, with minors in Piano Pedagogy and Music Theory, from the University of Georgia. She earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Her principal piano teachers include David Fung, Marina Lomazov, and Anton Nel. She also studied music theory with Adrian P. Childs and piano pedagogy with Grace Huang.
Born and raised in Macau, Chan has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and China. Her appearances include performances at the Macao Cultural Centre, Steinway Hall, the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, and with the Sewanee Symphony Orchestra. An active collaborative pianist and chamber musician, she has participated in numerous international music festivals, including the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Chamber Music Athens, Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, Brevard Music Festival, Clear Creek Music Festival, and the Texas State International Piano Festival.
Chan is a prizewinner of numerous competitions, including the David O. Nilsson Solo Piano Competition, the Robert G. Edge Piano Competition, and the Georgia Music Teachers Association State Audition Upper College Division. She has also received top prizes in the Macau Young Musicians Competition and the Bach and Liszt Piano Competition of Macau. Her academic and artistic achievements have been recognized through prestigious scholarships and awards, including the Macau Foundation Scholarship, Macau Postgraduate Scholarship, the Unrestricted Endowed Presidential Scholarship from the University of Texas at Austin, and the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Piano Scholarship.
An active member of the Music Teachers National Association, Chan has held numerous leadership positions, including Vice President for MTNA Competitions for the Georgia Music Teachers Association and President of the MTNA Collegiate Chapter at the University of Georgia. Her professional service has also included serving as a young jury member for the Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition and holding internship positions with Chamber Music Athens and the Brevard Music Festival.
A dedicated teacher and pedagogue, Chan has worked with students of all ages and levels. She has served on the piano faculties of Georgia College and the University of Georgia Community Music School and taught class piano and music minors as a teaching assistant at the University of Georgia. In recognition of her commitment to teaching excellence, she received the University of Georgia Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in 2021.
Chan is President of the Atlanta Center for Young Musicians, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. She is the founder and executive director of Atlanta Piano Competition.
